After I bought a deep frier, I've been frying everything.
Fried calamari!!

Found a great sushi to-go place near my house. Mmm!

It's snowing outside right now. I want to go out and play,
but it's already too dark outside. Today I stayed home all
day working on another assignment for Time Out NY.

I hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving holiday.
Here is an illo for Time Out New York magazine for issue 688 coming out on December 4th.
The story is about one of the magazine's columnist -- and how she was ending one relationship and starting another, but they had overlapped. One of them even flew in to Chicago to spend New Years together-- but she ended up spending New Years with...a third guy.

It's getting really cold in New York. I really wanna go outside and walk around but it's just too cold. So, I have been making more promo pieces to send out.
Here is one:
This image is actually a part of a larger piece I'm working on for the contest.

Right now I'm working on two assignments, one for Time Out NY and one for O, The Oprah.
They're both due really soon -- but I find myself slacking off even more as deadline approaches. The story for Time Out NY is very interesting. I'll be able to post them up by end of the week.

Thanksgiving and Christmas is just around the corner! :-)

The December issue of Popular Mechanics just came out. Although the Art Director warned me about the smallness of the illos -- I was a little disappointed that they came out too small. But here they are!! :-) I'm in a good mood today.

You could also view it online here.

finally updating picture from my birthday..
my boyfriend decided to become super duper nice and get me the new macbook pro i really wanted...since my old computer was giving me problems. I'm so loving it right now.

I'm planning to stop being lazy and enter a contest. So far, I have only done 2%.

Here is a new piece I did for my promo package. I've been wanting to draw Mr. Softee's ice cream truck for a long time -- but never actually sat down to do it. Ice creams taste better when it's cold for some reason.
I'm happy about the outcome of the election. I'll be able to vote in the next one. :-)

So once again I'm back in New York. I love going home to see my family in Atlanta, but after the whole trip everything gets thrown off and it's hard to get on my feet again.

Anyway, I re-designed my website.
I need to remind myself not to mess with my website again until it is necessary. I'm not an expertise with coding html + css...so it was a pain having to worry about both firefox/safari and internet explorer. :-(
But it's finished now. Yay!!

i'm in love with these two artists : Kim, Hong-Do and Shin, Yoon-Bok from late 1700's.

Kim Hong-Do is now known as the father of Korean traditional painting. He was a court painter during Chosun Dynasty. He was one of the first artist to paint common people. His realistic depictions of people's everyday lives were favored by the King who was interested in a life outside his palace.

Shin Yoon-Bok is also an important figure in the history of Korean art. It is assumed that he/she was the student of Kim Hong-Do. (it's not certain if it was a she or he.) His work brought a lot of controversies because they were too erotic at the time. I really like his soft, feminine line with details and intense highlights of color.

new work

Here's 3 spot illos I did for Popular Mechanics for December '08 issue. They're for an article about the 3 Minute Solutions in your Home. After a few painful revisions -- they told me it was running black & white so I had to change the colors all over again. :-( But now I'm thinking black & white probably looks better.

This is a small piece for the website design i'm doing. Not sure yet if I wanna work on the background or not...

Things have been a little crazy for me these days. Beside my personal issues, I recently learned that my grandfather in Korea had passed away couple months ago...Yeah, my dad and everyone else in Korea didn't want to tell us this sad news. He's been sick for a long time -- but I have never thought he would really leave this soon. Hearing this news from my cousin who came to visit me in New York really broke my heart. When I went to Korea last year in July I never thought that would be my last time seeing him. If I had known...or if somehow I could turn back the time..there's so much to say..
All I can do now is to wish for him to rest in peace and pray for him...he had suffered so much...
I know he will be in good hands. Below is what I started doing for him to put in the place they keep his ashes. We never really had a chance to take a family portrait, so I wanted to have all of us in the portrait. It's still not done yet since I had to stop working on it to have my cousin take it back with her...Starting from bottom left counterclockwise : my dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, bro, cousin, me, and my younger bro.

A new website that I'm working on..
It's simpler than my own website, but it sure is pain in the butt.

I think I need to get a new computer soon...My imac is starting to get vertical lines and it's so annoying. :-(

After a LONG vacation in Georgia I'm finally back in New York. I meant to update my blog as often as possible -- but I got too lazy. Being back home made me so relaxed and laid back that if I were to stay there longer I won't have anything done. But it was definitely worthwhile and I loved being home with my family. :-)

Updated my website with a new work and a not-so-new work. I'm posting it up here too:

Last week I met up with Dara to go to an opening show at Giant Robot -- ended up staying there for a few minutes and went to eat at Yakitori. Okonomiyaki is always my favorite! We never get tired of that restaurant.

I haven't been to the beach for a long time. I think next month when I go back to Georgia I will drive down to Florida with my family and enjoy my vacation. I'm looking forward to the day when we will be able to travel in a time machine -- so I don't have to buy a freakin' expensive plane tickets.

Currently I'm working on some t-shirt projects I was asked to do.
I'm also about to go through some changes in my life.
I need to be more determined and strong to carry out my will..which will in turn help me get to where I want to be.

I've been sitting here for a couple hours trying to update my website with these old work from my sketchbook, but it won't let me because they're upgrading their server...argh!

my bro

Here is a portrait of Harry, my older brother. When we were young we used to take art lessons together -- and although I thought I was way better than him -- he was the one who won all the first prizes at competitions.

As the oldest, he was someone who my younger brother and I could look up to. He was always smart, creative, and a bit odd. I remember him telling all our relatives that he's going to become a president of United States when he grows up. (that was when we had no idea that we were going to move to the states)

Now he's studying and working hard to become a doctor. I'm not sure how long it will take, but I know for sure that he will become a great one some day. :-)
